Hello,
Just a quick update. We received some feedback on the initial release of the BOM Bubbling where users wanted to Bubble Material in different Viewports but have all the material show up in one consolidated table. I’m happy to announce we added the feature to our newest version. Bubble a viewport and place the automatic table that appears on your crosshairs and then select a second viewport and have the material automatically added to the original table. And no worries in regards to duplication – Duplicate material that shows up in both viewports will NOT be added twice.
Note: For those of you who missed the first article, I have re-posted it below.
At ECE, we produce productivity plugins for the CADWorx Community. We are all about getting the most out of your CADWorx & Analysis Software Assets.
When designing the plugins, we look to our customers for ideas and attempt to help by meeting their needs through automation. Sometimes we fail but often we succeed (there are quite a few “Worx” Plugins on the side of the road)!
In any case, the plugins start out small like BUBBLEWorx, which was originally designed for tagging components while keeping the bubbles synchronized with the 3D model. But we wanted to grow BUBBLEWorx into much, much more. After tag syncing, we added “Master Material List (MML) Bubbling”. The MML feature was designed for a specific customer that wanted components to always carry the same mark number across all 2D annotation drawings and projects. A 90° elbow is always bubbled as #2, a 45° elbow is always bubbled as a #3, and so forth.

After formally releasing the upgrade, we found that other customers were not using the product as we had originally designed it. Instead of maintaining the “Master Material List” across all projects and drawings, customers used the tool to automatically create a Master Material List from the current drawing and then just bubble that drawing. Maintaining the Master Material List was unnecessary. They just needed bubbles on the components with a corresponding Bill of Materials and this gave us an idea…
Automatic BOM Marking
Components in a model are bubbled and auto-numbered. All items are placed in a Bill of Materials table and the table is synchronized automatically to the bubbles if changes are made. Simple and straight-forward, the BUBBLEWorx Automatic BOM Marking Tool allows the user to Bubble Items without using a Master Material List. This tool is ideal for users that would like sequential numbers for each and every drawing generated.
Just select parts and bubbles will be placed on the drawing. The Bill of Materials is automatically generated according to the BUBBLEWorx table settings and placed on your cross-hairs for placement. At any given time, you can add or delete bubbles, change from a Cut list table style to a Total table style, or change any number of settings and the Bill of Materials will be updated automatically – we call it the ‘no-touch’ Bill of Materials!
