Weld Mapping and Inspection - How to leverage CADWorx...

So many projects require great attention to welding and our Bill Vasey continues to provide consulting services as Certified Welding Inspector(CWI) on methods to improve the documentation process. ECE Design understands the necessity for sound welds whether they are for industrial process piping (ASME B3.#) or the demanding requirements of Hygienic piping (ASME BPE). During this session, ECE will demonstrate how to leverage CADWorx to produce weld maps and the associated inspection forms that can be used to service most piping projects.

Project Document Management - Linking documents to a CADWorx P&ID or Asset Tag

Over the years, ECE has found that linking drawing files and documents to a project is not good enough. We find great benefits to linking them to a CADWorx P&ID or Asset TAG. During this session we will demonstrate how simple this linking process can be with Adept and how Adept offers revision control and searching capabilities. This process can be applied to any document and therefore provides project team members that ability to find all documents associated with a TAG and their revisions.

CADWorx Pipe Supports and Assembly BOMs...

ECE will demonstrate how CADWorx PLANT Professional and PLANTMO combine functions to generate bill of materials for Pipe Supports. Almost everyone has agreed that having a pipe support bill of material would be beneficial to projects. In addition to bill of materials, ECE will demonstrate how piping support details can be priced real-time so that a total project cost can be estimated.

Isometric Drawing Revision Control...

Isogen Isometric drawing revision control is usually a challenge because these drawing files can be automatically produced at any time. This automatic drawing generation typically results in multiple copies of the same record being produced.

This webinar demonstrates how Isogen, PLANTMO-CAD and DOCMO, an pre configured Adept document management application, integrate to manage isometric drawing production workflow. This workflow ensures that an automatic revision control system is in place for Isometric Drawings.

Using CADWorx Plant on Hygienic Projects...

CADWorx Plant Professional can be used very effectively on hygienic projects. The pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry has some very unique piping design requirements that CADWorx has been able to address since its introduction in 1996. This session will demonstrate how to apply the "out of the box" features and functions to create detailed piping designs. ECE will present techniques to model some of the more inline components like Multi-Port diaphragm valves, Sterile Access ports, Filter Housings and alike. In addition, we'll present some techniques to address the "Validation" requirements of this industry such dead legs, sloped piping and weld mapping.

August 6, 2009 - Automatically Updating Isometric Title Blocks and Attributes from the COADE CADWorx Database

Cosponsored with COADE, ECE presented a subset of the first webinar on this topic - see below.

CADWorx Plant Professional and PLANTMO team up to offer a very effective way to push information from a CADWorx project database to ISOGEN title blocks through Attributes.  This session demonstrates how to setup and use CADWorx Plant, Isogen, and PLANTMO to automate and manage title block information, filenames, and drawing numbers.  PLANTMO functions automatically change isometric title block information and drawing numbers based upon CADWorx project data OR an Excel Workbook.. This includes the Attributes in the title block!  In addition, designers can open, move, delete and rename the isometric drawing files they create.

July 2nd , 2009 - Automating Datasheets using AVEVA Instrumentation

This session is intended for those individuals who are responsible for organizing, creating and delivering instrument datasheets. ECE will present how AVEVA Instrument converts a manual Excel Worksheet process into a more controlled and automated process. Learn how to leverage your existing Excel worksheets and link them to an robust I&C database. Witness how designers, engineers and vendors can now populate Excel worksheets and then return the information back to AVEVA Instrument for revision control and datasheet deliverables.

June 18th, 2009 - Getting More out of your SQL and Access "Intelligent" COADE CADWorx P&IDs

CADWorx Webinar SeriesECE will discuss COADE CADWorx Plant and COADE CADWorx P&ID Professional database connections and the ease of extracting data with PIDMO and PLANTMO.

PIDMO is a database interface that allows CADWorx PLANT and CADWorx P&ID Professional users to leverage information stored in their process and instrument diagrams (P&ID) and 3D model drawings so that project managers, engineers, purchasing managers and other non-CAD users can import and export data from their project databases to and from Microsoft Excel. This sophisticated reporting tool enables users to easily access component information, filter for bills of materials (BOM), compile cost estimates, create project management worksheets and create Excel-based instrument and equipment datasheets with revision controls.

Further, PLANTMO, a CAD extension tool, allows designers to automatically apply project data updates to fabrication isometric drawings, populate ISOMETRIC drawings with Attribute Data, and generally manage the CADWorx user experience.

Question and Answer Archive

Q: Is the key on the importation referenced by the tag, drawing or something else?
A: The key field is the ID_COUNT as this is what CADWorx relies on.

Q: Will PIDMO eliminate to the need to manually set up the SQL Server?  Will the "seed" file you talked about set up the tables we require via our input?
A: Yes!  PIDMO uses a Seed Access Database to create the SQL Database Automatically.  The Seed Database can be modified to fit the customer requirements.

Q: Does PIDMO have a limit to the number of users (like Access/Excel) or is it a stand alone program unique to each user?
A: PIDMO is a standalone program and uses the same software protection as CADWorx.  There is a Stand-Alone (Green Key) and Network (Red Key) available.  The Network Key can have as many users as necessary but as with CADWorx.  The number of people using the Access Database is limited (by performance) to “x” number of users.  “x” is determined by the Hardware being employed at the site, the network and Access itself.

Q: When you are importing the Excel file that has changes made to an instrument, does PIDMO reference the instrument number in the Excel file to an instrument number in the database?
A: PIDMO references the ID_COUNT as does CADWorx.

Q: I guess what I am getting at is what if you change/add/delete an instrument in the exported Excel file and then import that file into PIDMO, does it change the tag name, add a new instrument, delete the instrument?
A: If the ID_COUNT is no longer in the database because it was deleted on the P&ID then PIDMO will reject the record and it will not be imported.  If the instrument was changed to a different type or tag then the ID_COUNT would still be valid.  In this case, PIDMO would find the valid record and overwrite the data in the database. Care must be taken.  There is security available in PIDMO to prevent unauthorized people from using the IMPORT functionality.

Q: With the push-pull capability of the reporting features, how does PIDMO handle the MOC process to be sure that the data imported is correct, approved for use, compliant with the project specifications and process design conditions?
A: PIDMO has security and the functionality.  Care must be taken.  Proper procedures must be in place.
