When transitioning from CADWorx Plant to AutoCAD Plant 3D, the first question that always arises is:
“How do I convert my CADWorx Specifications to AutoCAD Plant 3D Specifications?”
The second question is always:
“How much will it cost?”
ECE faces the same PLANT design software platform choices as everyone else: AutoCAD PLANT 3D or CADWorx.
These two platforms are both capable of routing industrial piping and producing deliverables, but it is almost impossible to keep descriptions, part numbers, and even weights the same between them. ECE is solving this problem by enhancing SPECWorx to help convert piping specification content from CADWorx to AutoCAD PLANT 3D on demand.
Those who have searched for an automated solution have come to the realization that Modern CADWorx Specifications (>2012) cannot be converted to AutoCAD Plant3D Specifications using the AutoCAD Plant 3D Specification Editor Importer. Further, a simple web search reveals the following reasons in all Technical Posts:
- Not possible for CADWorx Specification newer than 2012.
- From the CADWorx proponent: Why would you want to switch?
- From the AutoCAD Plant 3D proponent: Create the Specs using the native system to reap the benefits.
- Access to the CADWorx Catalog is limited sometimes so completing the conversion with just the CADWorx Prj is not feasible without the Catalog.
In all cases, there is much discussion and little progress to make it happen. The implications are labor-intensive and costly!
No doubt, CADWorx and AutoCAD PLANT 3D are different. They take different paths, but eventually get to the same place: drawing specification driven piping components with properties!
ECE’s software and services are helping companies convert piping specifications within hours rather than days or even weeks with a true cost savings.
SPEC-tacular Error Free Results
SPECWorx has been processing CADWorx piping specifications for many years. It plays the Quality Control Inspector role for many CAD Administrators because it automatically finds errors and troubleshoots them. Now, SPECWorx is part of the conversion process too. Over the last few years, ECE has been helping companies stand up AutoCAD Plant 3D. If they are using CADWorx, then those pipe specifications must be recreated in PLANT 3D. SPECWorx is reducing implementation time and costs by automating much of the transformation.
After diving in and tearing the AutoCAD Plant 3D specifications apart, ECE is now able to fully convert CADWorx Project Files (PRJ) to AutoCAD PLANT 3D Catalog & Specifications inclusive of CADWorx User Shapes.
